MUMBAI: Several secondary schools managed by BMC do not have a headmaster, the Maharashtra Shikshak Parishad, a teachers' body, has alleged. According to the Parishad, 105 of BMC's 143 secondary schools only have a senior teacher to carry out a headmaster's responsibility. "We got complaints from schools and took it up with education minister Vinod Tawde," said Anil Bornare, Mumbai representative of the Parishad.

BMC education officer Sambhavi Jogi said some vernacular medium schools do not have minimum strength of 150 students required for a headmaster to be appointed. "In other cases, the position is reserved for persons of 'reserved' category for which we do not find suitable candidates," she said.
