Shivaji-based theme to light up Fadnavis's oath taking

MUMBAI: In reminiscent of the glorious rule of Shivaji, the BJP has decided to recreate the coronation scene of the Maratha ruler as Devendra Fadnavis takes his oath at Wankhede Stadium tomorrow. A giant screen will project the image of Shivaji at Raigad fort even as Fadnavis is sworn in as the new chief minister in front of a crowd, expected to swell to 35,0000-40,000. At the end of the oath-taking, the new ministers, led by the CM, will take a round of the stadium on a chariot. The ceremony will culminate in the evening when 25 floating lotuses, lit from inside, will be set adrift in the sea in front of Wankhede stadium; the glowing lotuses, being ferried on boats to Nariman Point, will make for a spectacular vision in the backdrop of the dark horizon.

Bollywood art director Nitin Desai, who conceived the entire decor, started work on Tuesday. According to him, the history and culture of Maharashtra will be captured through vignettes of images of Shivaji, taking oath, historical places and the traditions of the state. "A huge LED curved screen of 150X30 feet will be used so that people from all corners of the stadium could watch it, feel they are near the stage," said Desai. Three daises will be joined together to accommodate 150 dignitaries there. "I am trying to give the best, and I hope people, who come to attend the ceremony, will be satisfied," Desai said. No wood or plaster of Paris will be used as raw material for the decoration. "It is a challenging job as I have only three days with limited time and money. I also have to keep protocol and security arrangements in mind. But I am happy that I have been chosen for the job," said Desai.
