BEST committee demands EOW probe into smartcard fraud

MUMBAI: BEST committee members have sought a probe by the city police's economic offences wing into the alleged misappropriation of crores in a "smartcard fraud" detected a few years ago.

Committee member Suhas Samant on Tuesday said the role of a few officials was under the scanner. "An inquiry was instituted against them, but no action has been taken," he said at the panel meeting on Tuesday. BEST general manager Om Prakash Gupta said, "We are awaiting the inquiry report, based on which we can take action. But we haven't found any incriminating document, hence it will be premature to approach the cops," he said.
