Acting on a tip-off from activists, the police visited the booth near Nargis Dutt slum and seized the cards. A local candidate alleged the party's leader from the area was involved and the cards were meant for bogus voting. But the police said the ID cards looked genuine and that they had contacted the EC to confirm it. An officer pointed out storing so many cards at a party booth called for a probe. "Following talks with the returning officer, we will decide on the next course of action," said DCP Satya Narayan Chaudhary.
In Bhayander (W), several PAN cards, some of them believed to be bogus, along with voting slips and copies of Aadhar cards were found abandoned below the Rai creek bridge, the Uttan coastal police said.
There were minor clashes among party activists but the police said heavy bandobast helped maintain peace in most parts. At Byculla, jailed gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli's daughter and corporator Geeta's supporters clashed with MNS workers. Her car was damaged but no one was injured. Three NCP workers in Bhiwandi were injured after a fight with BJP workers over allegations of bogus voting. The RCF police detained a man with Rs 35,000, which he was allegedly distributing among voters.
