Teen held for harassing schoolgirls

BHIWANDI: Parents of a schoolgirl on Saturday helped cops arrest a teenager who, along with four others, used to pass lewd comments at a group of minor girls outside a Bhiwandi school. But four aides of the arrested teenager managed to escape.

The arrested teen is Santosh Chavan (18) while the others—Vishal Kakade, Vishal Bhoir, Naresh Naik and Mahesh Naik (all between 18 and 20 yrs)—are on the run. The Shanti Nagar police said the accused are residents of Sai Krupa Nagar. The six girls they harassed all study in a convent school in the same area. The complaint was lodged by the parents of a 15-year-old girl. They alleged that since one month, Chavan and his friends used to harass her and five of her classmates as they waited for the bus after school. Following the complaint, cops laid a trap and caught Chavan, a school dropout who works with a private firm. All accused have been charged with molestation and eve-teasing.
