Realising that the Sunday megablock would add to the commuters' woes, the railway officials immediately cancelled the proposed rail blocks on Main and Harbour lines within an hour after the incident.
Two pairs of wheels of the Panvel-CST local derailed at around 11.50am on arrival at platform number 2. "Five coaches of the train had already entered the CST platform when the derailment occurred,'' a CR source said. No passenger was, however, injured in the incident.
The railway officials immediately blocked platforms 1 and 2 and expedited the process of rerailing the train. "It was the second coach towards Masjid end that had derailed. We are conducting a detailed inquiry into what went wrong. Fortunately, it was not a week day, else thousands of office-goers would have been stranded during rush hour," an official said.
