MUMBAI: A special CBI court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of an accused, an ATS inspector, in the case of alleged fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Shaikh.

The court rejected the accused, Narayan Singh's plea after it found that his release could not be granted either on grounds of merit or parity. The investigating agency had alleged that Singh had fired three rounds of bullets on Shaikh, one of which was recovered from the victim's thigh.

BJP president Amit Shah, also an accused in the case, was once again granted exemption.

The judge, however, made it clear that all accused will have to remain present during future proceedings unless sufficient grounds are cited for their absence.

The court has posted Shah's discharge application for September 17 and additionally said that all accused will have to be present in court on September 22.
