NCP-SP in talks to form pre-poll alliance in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: After the Congress broke its ties with the Samajwadi Party, the NCP and SP are in parleys to form an alliance ahead of the assembly polls in Maharashtra.

An NCP-SP alliance will be a "masterstroke" as SP state unit chief Abu Asim Azmi has been a vocal critic of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

"Yes, talks are going on. We might reach a decision by the evening," said a senior NCP leader.

However, like the Congress-NCP alliance didn't go down well with some Muslim leaders in the grand old party, forcing the state Congress leaders to snap ties with the SP, some Muslim leaders in NCP too may raise a banner of protest if a "deal" is made with the SP.
