MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police have swung into action to tackle the menace of a fugitive gangster who had recently threatened several film personalities, developers and businessmen. To cripple his gang, cops have started scanning all the gangsters related to the gang, even those behind bars. This is the beginning of the deportation or extradition process of the gangsters.

The victims, who were threatened recently, were summoned by the police and their statements were reviewed. "We have arrested six members of this gang. They have been booked under the stringent law, Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) that has made bail chances difficult for them. Four men, claiming to be from this gang, barged into the property of a group of developers on Friday and threatened the watchmen with choppers. Two months ago, the gangster allegedly called up the office of an industrialist and threatened him. Besides this, actor Shah Rukh Khan, Boman Irani and several others have been provided police cover. The police are compiling record of gang members of this faction to cripple the gang," said a senior police officer.

The gangster, against whom a red corner notice is also issued, is suspected to have taken shelter in a foreign country. "Though the gangster is using advanced technology to evade arrest. We will break the gang soon," said another officer. Cops' say their priority is to nab the gangster and bring him back home so that he could be prosecuted. In the past, Santosh Shetty, a ganster, was deported from Bangkok, Abu Salem was extradited from Portugal, and over a dozen members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang were deported from the UAE.

A state anti-terrorism squad (ATS) officer said that the gangster had threatened at least four more persons related to the film industry in the last one month.
