Justice P V Hardas and Justice Anuja Prabhudessai heard a PIL by activist Ketan Tirodkar to curb electricity thefts during festivals like Ganeshotsav and Navratri. His petition said organizers hijack power from electric poles and residential and commercial connections for which consumers get hefty bills after the festival period.
The prosecutor submitted an affidavit filed by Ravindra Shisve, deputy commissioner of police (Zone 1), informing that instructions have been issued to all police stations to respond to BEST's complaints and take action without fail. It also stated that zonal DCPs have been appointed as nodal officers and whenever BEST approaches them, they will take action through police stations.
The judges told the BEST, prosecutor and Tirodkar to give suggestions to curb such thefts.
