MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Commission for Women have demanded that DIG Sunil Paraskar should either step aside or be suspended pending completion of investigation, chairperson of the Commissioner, Susieben Shah, wrote to Mumbai police chief Rakesh Maria on Monday.

A model had accused Paraskar of repeated rape, following which the probe was handed over to the women's cell of the crime branch by Maria.

Shah has said in her letter that she had called upon DCP Sharda Raut, who heads the women's cell, to submit a status report of the investigation into the rape case, but is yet to receive it. The Commissioner has now demanded that the status report be sent to them by the end of this week.

"Newspaper reports quoted Paraskar's lawyer stating that the DIG cannot take a lie detector test as he has undergone a bypass surgery. But I have checked with a leading cardiologist in Mumbai and he opined that there is no health hazard in taking a lie detector test," Shah said in her letter, adding that the police department needs to take then opinion of cardiologists, attached to a government hospital, to ascertain the authenticity of claims made by Paraskar's lawyer.
