MUMBAI: A 67-year-old shop keeper, Mahesh Bafna, was killed at his godown, adjoining to his shop, at Khar West. His body was found by the family members on Monday morning.

Bafna owns a shop in Khar and lived with his senior citizen wife in the vicinity. The couple's two son and a daughter also live in the vicinity.

On Sunday night, Bafna told his wife that he was going to meet a friend at Malad after which he would return home. He didn't return and his wife thought that he could have stayed back at his friend's place.

But, there was no response from him after which the wife informed her kids about it. They visited the shop to inquire about Bafna and then visited the godown. The family members found injured Bafna in the godown. They took him to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The Khar police are recording the statement of the concerned persons in the case. The police said that the accused had assaulted Bafna before strangulating him to death. The police suspect that property dispute or business rivalry could be the motive behind the killing.
