The incident occurred between Borivali and Bhayander stations.
Speaking to TOI, the eyewitness who shot the video on his cellphone stated that the victim was in his fifties. "The victim had boarded the second-class general compartment, around 4.05pm, and wanted to alight at Bhayander station. There was an argument between him and a few co-travellers over seats. The co-travellers told him they were in a group and asked why he was adding to the crowd in the Dahanu-bound local if he wanted to alight after three stations and could have easily boarded a Virar train. The group then threatened to not let him alight and forcibly detain him till Vaitarna station. The victim tried to leave and there was some jostling. Suddenly, without warning, one of them started to rain blows on the victim. Others simply watched as the victim was beaten repeatedly. Pleading that he would never re-enter a Dahanu-bound local again, the victim somehow got off at Bhayander," the witness said.
TOI checked with the Government Railway Police (GRP) outposts between Borivali and Virar but the victim has not approached them to lodge a complaint till date.
(The identity of the witness has been kept confidential)
