Five including a lawyer arrested for attempted suicide in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The cuffe Parade police on the Independence day morning arrested five persons including a lawyer from Aurangabad for trying to set themselves on fire. All the five people, upset with the government, had in advance warned to set them on fire, were caught from near Secretariat gymkhana near Mantralaya.

Police said that the lawyer, Rahul Mhaske, 41, originally from Beed, practices in Aurangabad. He along with others — Ashok Datpute, Rameshwar Nikhalje, Shailesh Dhepe and Ashok Tayde — was arrested soon after the lawyer poured kerosene on his body.

"Police had got the information in advance that they were planning to commit suicide allegedly because their work was not getting done by the state. We have arrested them for attempted suicide and are verifying their allegations," said a police officer. They were released on bail.
