MUMBAI: Double decker train on the Konkan Railway route from Mumbai may be introduced before Ganapati festival to cater to the additional rush of passengers.
Sources said, "Konkan Railway has already submitted the papers for approval, while CR submitted the papers to CRS on Monday." The carrying capacity of the 9-coach Janshatabdi is 700 coaches, including 73 in AC Chair-car coach. During the peak season, railways add three extra coaches, including one AC and two non-AC.

On the other hand, the double decker coach can accommodate 120 passengers, including 50 passengers on the upper deck, 48 on the lower deck and 22 on the ends. There are likely to be 10 coaches attached with the double decker train.
