Developer's wife held for abetting nieces' rape

The wife of a developer from Oshiwara, who was on the run for the past seven months in connection with abetting the sexual assault of three of her nieces, was finally arrested by the police on Friday. The developer had been arrested on charges of rape in January 2014 itself.

"The female accused had moved out of her Oshiwara residence after her husband's arrest. We tracked down where her children studied and managed to nab her on Friday. She was produced before a magistrate court and has been remanded to police custody till August 5," said senior inspector Subhash Vele, Oshiwara police.

The victims are aged 13, 15 and 17 years. They reside at Malwani with their parents and other siblings. Their father works as a tailor. About a year-and-half-ago, the female accused convinced the parents of the victims that she could look after the girls better as she had stronger financial resources. She first brought the eldest victim home and forced her to get intimate with her husband (the developer) on several occasions. Two months later, she brought the second victim home and thereafter the youngest. All the three girls were sexually assaulted by the developer at his Oshiwara residence.

The matter came to light when the youngest victim confided in her parents. Her parents then approached the Malwani police station where a case of rape was registered. The case was then transferred to Oshiwara police station in whose jurisdiction the offence had occurred. The girls were sent for a medical examination.

The developer allegedly tried to brush the matter under the carpet by conniving with an officer from another police station who was friends with him. But the Oshiwara police went ahead and arrested the developer. He was booked under the stringent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and IPC.
