Trekker stranded at Chanderi hill in Thane rescued

MUMBAI: One trekker died and seven others, including a woman, who were stranded at the Chanderi hill trekking point near Badlapur in Thane district on Saturday were brought safely on Sunday morning.

The police team along with professional trekkers and a fire brigade team on Sunday morning at 10am success to brought down all safely and later Abhijit Kadam, 25, who died after he slipped and fell on the hill during the heavy downpour, and soon succumbed to head injuries was taken to Central hospital for the post mortem.

The stranded trekkers were part of a group of around 48 Mumbaikars who had left for the hill on Saturday morning. When they began their return journey from the hill in the afternoon, heavy rain rendered the task difficult.

Somehow, 40 people managed to climb down while those who were new to trekking got stuck in the hill.

While teams of the local Kulgaon police and the fire brigade, an ambulance and other professional trekkers rushed to the spot, rain, fog and a slippery path made it difficult to reach the trekkers. The rescue team, finally on Sunday, at around 4am, reach at spot and brought down all safely at around 10am.

Abhijit who died in mishap lives in Malad and works as trainer in gymnasium.
