"We will conduct admissions for the vacant seats through our website. Approximately 10% of the total seats are available for students," said Vijay Joshi, principal of K J Somaiya College.
While most colleges will sell forms starting Saturday, a few colleges have already begun accepting applications. "Many students came asking about the seats available, so we collected the mark sheet copies and noted their contact details. Available seats will be given on merit," said Jyoti Thakur, vice- principal, Jai Hind College.
A few students also visited colleges to cancel their admissions so that they could apply at a college of their choice. "I am cancelling my seat at Jai Hind as it is too far from my house. I want to take admission to National College in the science stream," said a student. According to the norms for offline admissions, forms should be given only to students who have their original mark sheet and school-leaving certificate.
The online admission process concluded on Thursday. At the end of the third merit list, over 74,000 seats were still vacant. The number of vacant seats is expected to rise as until Thursday evening only 7,922 of the 27,945 students who were allotted a seat in the third merit list had secured admission.
In spite of the smooth run for the online admission process, parents feel the offline process will work better. "Students are now seeking offline seats available at their preferred colleges. The online process is good only for students who score above 90% as they easily get the college of their choice. It would have been better if we individually applied only to the colleges which we wanted," said Shabbir Rangwala, parent of a class X ICSE student.
