Days after Rs 25 lakh heist, another motorist robbed of Rs 9 lakh in Kandivli

MUMBAI: Days after a businessman was robbed of Rs 25 lakh in a daring heist in Goregaon (E), a motorist was looted of Rs 8.75 lakh by four armed men who waylaid his car in Kandivli (W) on Thursday morning. In both the cases, the accused smashed windowpanes of the vehicles to grab the money. The earlier incident took place on Saturday.

The latest incident occurred around 9.35am at Sainagar. The complainant, Jiten Gangar (35), who works for an oil firm, had left office in his car and was on his way to a bank to deposit the money, which was the company's earnings. He was accompanied by a security guard, who was carrying the Rs 8.75 lakh cash, and was seated beside him.

At Samta Krida Bhavan, two men in a car pulled up in front of Gangar's vehicle, blocking the road. The accused stepped out of the car and were joined by two accomplices, who had been waiting at the spot.

"The four accused smashed the car's rear windowpanes. They then brandished arms and got into a scuffle with Gangar and the guard, before making off with the cash," an officer from Kandivli police station said.

A case was registered under provisions of the IPC and the Arms Act. "We will scan footage of CCTVs installed at the junction. Sketches will be prepared," the officer said.
