KALYAN: MNS chief Raj Thackaray was on Saturday granted bail in two different cases — rioting and violation of model code of conduct — registered against him at two different police stations in Dombivli in 2011.

Thackaray did not attend the hearings in the past due to which the Kalyan sessions court issued summons againt him.

On Saturday, Thackaray was present at the court along with 15 other accused. The court charged Thackaray with a fine of Rs 2,000 for not being present in the court in both the cases.

During the argument, Raj's advocate Dipesh Patel filed a discharge application in the case, saying that his client is not involved in the case as he was not present during the riots which was opposed by public prosecutor Reshma Jadhav who demanded for another hearing.

The court has ordered the next hearing on July 9.

In 2011, MNS workers had attacked north Indian candidates appearing for the railway exam at different places in Maharashtra including Dombivli. Following the attacks, the police registered cases at different places against Thackaray for fueling the riots.
