The BMC has asked the residents to peacefully vacate the flats and hand over the keys to ward office by Thursday, failing which the BMC will enter their premises and also file a contempt petition against them in the Supreme Court.
Mangeshkar, who owns a flat in the Campa Cola compound, has denounced the impending demolition of 96 illegal apartments in the society. Her nephew Adinath lives in flat 802 of Esha Ekta Apartment. This flat is among those that will be razed.
On Monday, the singer questioned why "residents were being penalized for the builders' crime". She said senior citizens and children would be unfairly displaced.
The BMC who was supposed to study the recent Supreme Court order and issue notices on Saturday giving residents 72 hours to surrender their keys, issued the notice on Monday evening.
Residents say that a team of civic officials has visited the compound on Monday at around 7.30pm and gave the notices.
Civic officials say that there was a delay in giving notices as they couldn't access the recent court order till Monday and without studying the observations they couldn't issue the notices.
