The FDA during routine checks found out that two pharmacists had lent their licenses to chemist shops in Kandivali even as they continued with their routine jobs. "One of them is a woman in her 20s and employed with a leading pharmaceutical company as a research development officer. The other erring pharmacist in his 30s also works as a medical representative with another pharma company. Both have been booked for cheating," said Sanjay Kale, joint vigilance commissioner, FDA.
Kale said that FIRs have been lodged against pharmacists in Thane, Akola, Nashik, Parbani, and Nanded as well. "In Nanded, professors teaching in pharmacy colleges were among those who rented their certificates though they never visited the shops," he added.
FDA has intensified its crackdown on chemist shops for not dispensing medicines under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist since the past two years.
Kale said that the pharmacists were violating several rules under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Indian Penal Code and Pharmacy Act.
