The bag found at around 12.15pm during drain cleaning work by local civic staff.
During drain cleaning work, staff noticed a heavy bag and when checked shocked to see bag full with cartridges.
The staff immediately informed to local Narpoli police who reached on spot and also alerted to ballistic experts.
The recovery of such a huge consignment of live cartridges in Bhiwandi city, which is considered as communally-sensitive area with background of several past communal riots have worried investigation agencies.
Co-incidentally recovery of arms has been made from same nearby area, where a Hindu organization is set to hold a programme demanding government to pass legislation to stop gau hatya (cow killing), in which one lakh Hindus are expected to attend.
Local Narpoli police along with crime branch team have started probe in to matter.
