Three dead as container crashes into Scorpio at national highway in Vasai

MUMBAI: Three persons were killed and four other sustained injuries when the driver of a container heading towards Gujarat lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a Scorpio on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway at Vasai on Sunday morning. The vehicles were severely damaged.

According to the deputy superintendent of police (traffic) of Thane Rural, Chandrakant Joshi, the accident occurred at around 6.30am near the Tungareshwar Phata on the highway at Vasai. The Scorpio was heading from Chembur to Rajasthan. The container driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the divider before crashing into the Scorpio. Three of the occupants of the Scorpio were killed on the spot. The injured are being treated at the primary health centre at Kaman in Vasai (east).

Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident, although eyewitnesses told the police that the container driver was speeding. The Valiv police is in the process of registering a complaint. The identities of the dead and the injured is still to be ascertained.
