Monorail timings extended but footfalls still low

MUMBAI: Extending the timings of the Chembur-Wadala monorail services has failed to increase the number of commuters. "The monorail ferried 15,016 commuters on April 15, when the timings were extended from 7am to 3pm to 6am to 8pm," said an MMRDA official. But the number was much less than expected. MMRDA had claimed average ridership of 18,000 commuters per day when the timings were from 7am to 3pm.

"With exams over, several families are on vacation. This could be the reason for the reduced number of commuters," said Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director, MMRDA.
