Mayank Kumravat (18) was arrested by the Manickpur police after neighbours informed the cops about the incident, which occurred around 7pm at their Bhuri Complex home in Om Nagar, Vasai (W).
An enraged Mayank allegedly stabbed his father, Mukesh (49), after he allegedly hit his mother, Vinita. Vinita watched in shock as Mayank pulled out a sickle and stabbed Mukesh on his neck, chest and face.
Mukesh, a civil engineer working for a construction company, died on the spot. Hearing Vinita scream, neighbours rushed in and found Mayank standing with the sickle.
Mayank, who had passed Std XII last year, told the police that his father used to beat his mother after coming home drunk. He said he was unable to see his mother's plight. Mayank, who was preparing for IIT, has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
