MUMBAI: A 1,361 page report on the alleged Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scam was submitted to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday. Noted hydrographer Madhav Chitale who led the Special Investigation Team presented the report to the chief minister.

He also sought a fortnight's time to submit an executive summary of the report. Though the cabinet is meeting on Monday morning, as the election code of conduct is expected anytime during the week, the report is unlikely to be raised in the cabinet in the absence of a summary.

The committee was set up in December 2012 following a series of expose in TOI and the subsequent resignation of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, the chief accused in the scam that unfolded across the state over a decade. However, Pawar returned within three months following a ``clean chit'' through a white paper presented by the irrigation department.

The committee was to initially submit its report in June 2013 but was later given an extension up to December 2013 and another extension up to February 2014. The committee visited 19 irrigation projects across the state and held 30 meetings. It held its last meeting on February 26.

The report comprises two parts: Part I is the main report and Part II comprises annexures.
