More than a week after Hatekar's suspension, Welukar called on the governor to brief him on the circumstances that lead to the economics professor's suspension and subsequent agitation by the students to protest the university's move. Hatekar was suspended on January 4 after he criticized the V-C, saying under Welukar's leadership there was steady denigration of the once prestigious university.
Welukar declined to elaborate on his interaction with the governor. "I briefed the governor on the decision of the management council to suspend Hatekar. As per governor's advice, we will resolve it as early as possible," he said.
