Corporators, especially chairman of the improvements committee Ram Barot, said they would speak to civic officials and seek at least 50% discount. The BMC has hiked parking rates by 300% in areas where the demand is high, like most lots in south Mumbai. The new rates will be applicable from November 2014.
Once the new policy is implemented, per-hour parking in any south Mumbai lot for four wheelers will cost Rs 60. "As corporators work for the public and need to visit several places daily, some concession should be considered for them," said Barot. But officials said they had not received any such demand so far.
"If we are expected to pay the hiked price, why excuse political representatives?" said Surinder Rai, a Churchgate resident. Officials said vehicles with beacons were not charged for parking.
