On Sunday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 13.7 degrees Celsius, making it the second coldest day this winter. On Saturday, the city had recorded a minimum of 13.6 degrees Celsius. Officials said that western disturbances in the north of India had provoked a dip in temperatures in Mumbai. The chill is likely to stay in the city for a couple of days after which the temperature would rise again. However, more such spells of cold are likely in the coming days as winter hits its peak in northern cities.
While the minimum temperature stayed almost the same, what distinguished Sunday from Saturday was the rise in maximum temperature. Colaba witnessed a four-degree rise and Santa Cruz saw temperatures two degrees higher. "Sunday was warmer compared to Saturday. The maximum temperatures are likely to remain in the range of 28-30 degrees Celsius," said an IMD official. There will be few days when it will tip below this range, he added.
Officials said apart from the chill, the city would continue to witness haze and dip in visibility.
