MUMBAI: In a bid to give vocational skill development a boost and to make online assessments inclusive, Mettl, an online assessment company, has tied up with the Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), to assess students for over 30 job profiles.
These profiles, in the automobiles and ancillary industries, include that of automotive body technician, commercial vehicle driver, loading and unloading executive, machining assistant and painter. The ASDC programme is a part of the STAR scheme launched earlier this year, to award a scholarship of Rs 10,000 to each student. The programme targets to train 25 million youth by 2020.
With this initiative, online assessments will test the employability of youth who do not possess a graduate degree, but a high school education. Moreover, by migrating onto the online platform for assessments, vocational courses, and in turn skill development programmes will inch faster towards their ambitious targets of training and employing millions of youth in manufacturing industries over the next decade.
"When we learnt of the opportunity to assess skills of vocationally trained youth, we took up this challenge. We believe that India needs a rapid ramp up of specialised, trained youth to take up thousands of jobs that are being created to satiate the growth of the manufacturing sector. This is especially so in the automobile and ancillary sector which is the largest employer of skilled youth. Online assessments that are tailor-made for these candidates will boost this effort and accurately ascertain their employability quotient," said Ketan Kapoor, Co-Founder and CEO, Mettl.
