MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued tenders inviting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to draw up a master plan to set up a bird park at Powai.

The 25-acre plot in Powai has been allotted by the civic corporation to house the huge bird and reptile population.
The park will be an extension of the Byculla zoo and will house its huge bird and reptile population.
The lone zoo in the city at Byculla, has 355 birds of 31 species. These include exotic species like the Japanese Crane, Military Macaw and the African Parrot.
According to the BMC's tender document the Powai site once develop will help decongest the bird population in the zoo. The site will be developed with the view to make it as an eco-tourism spot in the city. The bird park is a replacement for the initial plan of constructing an avian walk-through in the existing zoo, which was scrapped.
BMC officials say that this time to avoid delays the consultant who bags the project will be responsible to get all the necessary permissions within four months of submission to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA).
