‘No special counter for taxis driven by women’

MUMBAI: Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) told the Bombay high court on Saturday that there will be a common counter for all prepaid taxi services at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, including the one at the domestic terminal, 1 A.

Stree Shakti Kendra, one of three women taxi services, had moved court complaining that MIAL was not giving it bookings compared to black-andyellows and Cool Cabs. MIAL advocate Birendra Saraf said most of the Kendra's demands had been met except for one which asked that for every tenth booking of a prepaid Cool Cab, one be given to a taxi driven by a woman. He said the policy of first-in-first-out for all taxis will also apply to women.

While MIAL has agreed that bookings to women drivers will be given irrespective of the passenger's gender, it has refused to bear their security responsibility . The court said the matter would be reviewed in January .
