MUMBAI: Medical undergraduate and postgraduate exams in 311 colleges across the state have been postponed indefinitely owing to the ongoing strike of the non-teaching staff of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. The decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday after talks with the employee unions failed. The winter 2013 exams were to begin from November 26 for all health science courses.

The strike , which entered its sixth day on Saturday, has affected thousands of students, including more than 11,600 pupils who had failed in the summer 2013 exams and are awaiting fresh scores after the old evaluation pattern was revoked. Around 145 staffers are government employees and a same number works on temporary basis. Deepak Shelke from a union said, "Only 145 posts have been sanctioned. We are not even included in the pension scheme."

Vice-chancellor Arun Jamkar said varsity officials and union members will meet medical education minister Vijaykumar Gavit on Sunday.
