IT superintendent and tax consultant arrested for demanding bribe

MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation, Anti Corruption Branch, Mumbai has registered a case against Satyanarayan Vanam, office superintendent of Income Tax, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai and Shri Mehboob Shaikh, Tax Consultant for demanding bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant for clearing his Income Tax Returns without any scrutiny.

The case was registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and sections 7, 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 against Vanam and Shaikh, Tax Consultant based on the complaint.

After confirming the complainant's claim and verification of the demand was confirmed wherein accused demanded and agreed to accept part payment of the bribe amount of Rs 20,000.

Thereafter, the CBI laid a trap and the accused persons were caught red handed while demanding and accepting the part payment of bribe amount of Rs 20,000 from the complainant. The accused persons were arrested and produced in the designated court on November 15.
