JJ forensic experts find murder-suicide scene disturbed

KALYAN: Doctors from the forensics department of JJ Hospital who visited the Wankhede home in Kalyan (W) found the crime scene in Sunday's double murder and suicide case had been disturbed by the police, making it difficult to gather evidence.

JJ Hospital sources said that before reaching the spot on Monday, the team of doctors had told the Thane police team not to disturb the crime scene. After reaching the spot, the team found the family's relatives had been given access to the residence.

Sources said that on Monday night the team collected some samples and visited the spot again on Tuesday with a team from the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory.

On Sunday, Subhash Wankhede (65) and his wife, Pramodini (55), were found asphyxiated to death while their son, Nyaneshwar (30), was found dead because of nitrogen inhalation.

The police first thought it was a robbery attempt, but soon concluded Nyaneshwar had killed his parents before committing suicide.

Thane police commissioner K P Raghuvanshi transferred the case from the local Bazarpeth police station to the Thane crime branch. The crime branch investigation team will once again record the statement of Nyaneshwar's elder sister, Hemlata Lokhande.

The Wankhedes' relatives demanded the police should investigate the case properly, saying it was impossible for them to believe that Nyaneshwar could kill his parents and commit suicide.

They told TOI that they did not believe in the police theory that Nynaeshwar might have been frustrated over not getting married.

A relative said that Nyaneshwar was not desperate to get married and had recently rejected a proposal as he wanted someone from the engineering profession, the same field as his.

The incident has shocked Nyaneshwar's colleagues in IIT-Bombay. Nyaneshwar worked there as a junior technical superintendent at the Centre for Environment and Science Engineering.

The last rites of the deceased were conducted on Tuesday morning.
