MUMBAI: The Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has submitted a proposal to the Centre for the procurement of 100 buses.

The civic administration has submitted the proposal to the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission ( JNNURM). A total of 50 buses were earlier procured under the JNNURN scheme. Though the MBMC needs around 70 more buses to meet the demand of passengers, they have asked for 100 buses in keeping with the growing population of the region.

The private operators Kestrel Infrastructure Limited runs the MBMC buses.

As of now 55 of the 65 civic buses are on the road. Of the 33 routes that the municipality operates, 12 have been discontinued. The operators have been finding it difficult to run the buses due to rising fuel prices. The municipality recently hiked the fares of the buses.
