MUMBAI: Ranjit Kumar Sahay, an additional director general of police, in Maharashtra's housing department, sustained 60 per cent burn injuries at his home at Malabar Hills on Saturday night.

The police say they can't say whether it was an attempted suicide or not. They further said that they will be registering it as an incident and will keep option open for inquiry.

A1986 batch IPS officer, Sahay is currently additional DG with state police's housing department. Sahay has submitted a report to ACB Maharashtra against managing director of Maharashtra state Road transport corporation (MSRTC) for alleged irregularities in the corporation during his tenure.

After his report ACB starts inquiry against Deepak Kapoor. It says that Kapoor and Sahay were not on good terms when they worked together as MD and CVO respectively in MSRTC. Kapoor was very high profile officer who had been private secretary to Praful Patel when the latter was minister of state for aviation.

Sahay was reportedly not comfortable working under a relatively junior officer Kapoor who is an IAS officer of 1991 batch. Sources say the two had serious differences during their MSRTC tenure, which led to an exchange of letters between them over the issue of seniority.
