Four held for robbing electronic showroom in July

MUMBAI: Four men have been arrested for allegedly robbing cash and mobile phones worth over Rs 14 lakhs from an electronic showroom in Mira Road in July.

The closed circuit television (CCTV) installed in the Vijay Sales, a chain of electronic goods showroom, had captured the image of two masked men, who snapped the wires of the CCTV before decamping with 63 mobile phones and Rs 10,000.

The Thane rural crime branch arrested Sadab Shaikh (23), Shivam Chavan (26), Dharmesh Sharma (23), all residents of Nalasopara and Dharmendra Gupta (21), a resident of Mira Road. While Shaikh runs a hair salon in Nalasopara, the three others work as labourers.

They had hatched the plan to rob the showroom for some quick money. On July 7, the robbers gained access into the showroom located at Silver Park by drilling a hole on the rear wall of the third floor.

The accused have been remanded to police custody till September 26 by the Thane sessions court. The police recovered 24 mobile phones from them. The remaining mobiles were sold by the accused.
