Maharashtra has one of the largest NCC contingents of over 95,000 cadets. The directorate has a very enviable record of winning the All India Prime Minister's Banner for 17 years out of 22 and has been the winners for the last four years in succession. While talking to the additional directorate general NCC, Maharashtra, Major General S Sengupta, said that "it is a great honour for the directorate that the DG NCC is visiting us". Maharashtra directorate is a frontrunner and will continue to remain so.
Over the years, NCC has come a long way and today has over 14 lakh cadets from all over the country. Apart from military training, NCC also inculcates, in the cadets, national integration, social awareness, team spirit and spirit-de-corps. This year, NCC has taken two more pathbreaking initiatives for the betterment of the cadets.
First NCC has now become on elective subject in schools and colleges for which UGC and CBSE have given their concurrence. The matter has now been taken up with the state government for implementation. Second, in October 13, NCC will conduct its first National Games at New Delhi, where boy and girl cadets will compete with other state directorates. This is another major step towards national integration and building team spirit.
