MUMBAI: The prosecution in its reply filed on Monday opposed an application made by film professional Jerrit John seeking to drop the attempt to murder charge, after he was booked in an acid attack case.
John (44) is currently lodged in Arthur Road jail, after being arrested for allegedly hurling a chemical on his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend, physiotherapist Aryanka Hosbetkar, at her Worli residence in November last year. In its reply the Dadar police said that there was prima facie evidence to show that John had attempted to kill Aryanaka. The police also pointed to Aryanka's statement in which she had said that she feared that if released John would attempt to kill her.
The police also said that after attacking her, John had bolted her door from outside before fleeing. The police alleged that he wanted to ensure that medical help to Aryanak would be delayed. The police further pointed to alleged instances where Aryanka revealed that when she wanted to call off the relationship because of his other relationships, John had hit her, attempted to strangulate her and had even showed her a knife while keeping her locked in the car.
John, the proprietor of No Nonsense Productions was arrested from a Nallasopara hotel in November. The FIR said he had barged into the victim's flat , threw chemical on her and locked the flat before escaping from there. The incident took place on the early morning of November 7. Court sources said that the case is likely to be transferred to the special court for women related cases.
