Opposition slams ruling DF over the senior citizens issue

MUMBAI: Leader of the Opposition in the state legislative council VinodTawde (BJP) slammed the ruling DF government for "ignoring" demands of the senior citizens in the state.

"The Congress-NCP government had promise to introduce senior citizens policy. But so far the ruling DF government has done nothing concrete on the issue," Tawde said while participating in a protest rally organized by the senior citizens joint action committee at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.

The committee has slew of demands including introduction of a senior citizens policy and effective implementation of 'Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act'.

Meanwhile a senior Mantralaya official said the Opposition is politicizing the issue and the DF government will soon bring out a comprehensive policy for the elderly people in the state.
