Irrigation irregularities debate likely in Maharashtra legislature

MUMBAI: The alleged 70,000 crore irrigation scam is likely to be debated in the state legislative council on Tuesday.

Leader of the Opposition in the council-VinodTawde (BJP) speaking to media person in the assembly premises Tawde said, "Initially our demand to discuss the irrigation irregularities was discarded on the grounds that the issue is subjudice. But, we brought to the notice of the chairman that there is nothing wrong in discussing the issue. In fact we cited examples of several such matters including the controversial Adarsh housing scam. Finally the ruling DF has agreed for the debate on Tuesday."

The irrigation controversy was kicked off following the economic survey for 2011-12 mentioning that the state's irrigation area has shown a negligible rise of 0.1 per cent despite funds amounting to Rs 70,000 crore being spent in last few decades.
