MUMBAI: A 35-year-old man, who had slipped out of the custody of the Government Railway Police (GRP) three years ago, was nabbed on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Nasir Khan.
Khan had been booked by the Kurla GRP in 2010 on theft charges. He was being taken to the CST railway court in a local, when he jumped out of the moving train and escaped near Parel. The Dadar GRP then registered a case against him for escaping from police custody.
"Khan left Mumbai for his hometown in Uttar Pradesh. Later, he travelled to Madhya Pradesh and further to Karnataka, where he worked as a caterer for sometime. Confident that the railway police would have forgotten about his case, Khan returned to Mumbai this year," an official said.
The Dadar GRP received specific information that Khan was spotted hanging around in the Wadala-Antop Hill area. A trap was set and he was arrested on Tuesday. He was produced before a railway court and granted bail of Rs 5000. He has now been detained in a fresh case of mobile phone theft by Dadar GRP.
