MUMBAI: The issue of death threats to civic law committee chairman by octroi mafias had its strong reactions in the civic standing committee on Wednesday.
While irate corporators made a scathing attack on civic administration, additional municipal commissioner Rajiv Jalota further incurred their wrath by refusing to issue clarification on the issue.
Protesting this, opposition members staged a walkout from the committee. Standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale warned standing committee meeting would not be held till the administration issues a reply on the issue.
Civic law committee chairman Makarand Narvekar has complained of receiving threats from mafias after he tried to prevent octroi evasion at the octroi nakas. Raising the issue in the standing committee, house leader Shailesh Phanase slammed the civic administration for its failure to curb octroi evasion at the nakas.
Dilip Lande of MNS said, "That the security of civic headquarters is so dismal is proven by the fact that mafias threatened the law committee chairman by entering the head office."
However, replying to this Jalota said he will make a written clarification to the municipal commissioner and not to the standing committee.
