MUMBAI: An inebriated Vasai man has been arrested for stoning his wife to death as he suspected her of having an extra marital affair.

Santosh Mokashi (40) a resident of Dhanivbaugh took his wife Geeta to a secluded place near their house and smashed her head with a boulder. He left his wife to die and fled from the spot.

The victim was taken to the hospital by the locals but she died on admission. Mokashi a farmer had got into the habit of drinking and would beat up his wife.

According to the Valiv police, Mokashi who once owned land sold it to builders and blew up the money for drinks. Geeta used to work as a maid in the locality and run the family.

According to API Ramdas Vakode, Santosh who was nabbed by the police lied that Geeta had hurt herself after a fall. He later confessed to the crime. Santosh has been arrested under section 302 (murder) of the IPC. He will be produced before the Vasai sessions court on Wednesday.
