MUMBAI: Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan has said that special students have the talent and ability to realize their full potential as citizens. He called upon the society, parents and teachers to change their attitude towards special children and extend them a helping hand.
The governor further said that teachers teaching the special children should be trained and motivated so that they work with dedication and commitment.
Governor's public relations officer, Umesh Kashikar, in a press statement said that the Governor was speaking after felicitating two differently abled students from the state who have brought laurels for the country in various sporting and cultural events at the national and international levels. The felicitation function was organised at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Monday (15 April) at the initiative of Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai.
Guardians, trustees and teachers of the differently-abled students from Punarwas Education Society were present on the occasion. Sagar Ajit Kadam, a mentally challenged student has excelled in as varied games as Floor Hockey, Cricket, athletics, Table-tennis and Football. Sagar was the Captain of the Indian Floor Hockey team that participated in the World Winter Games 2013 held in South Korea. Neha Prakash Naik, another differently-abled student, has made her mark in Classical dance, acting and cultural activities. She has participated in the Special Olympics held in Greece, USA and Morocco.
