The Nagpada police that registered a case of a convict escaping from the jail visited John's Tulsi Pipe Road residence in Tardeo thrice since the incident but return empty-handed.
The incident took place at around 10.15am. Five police constables chased John who ran from the jail but failed. The policemen could not catch John who proved to be faster than the cops. "Three teams have been formed to trace John and we have activated all our sources to nab him. However, we have not got him yet," said a police officer from the investigating team.
John was involved in a theft case of railway protection force (RPF) and the court convicted him for a month. John was brought to Byculla jail on March 28 and was to be released on April 28. However, he managed to escape while cleaning the premises on Monday morning. Designated as Qaidi number 52964, John is suspected to leave the city to avoid re-arrest.
