Amin is in judicial custody of a Mumbai court in connection with the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, which was transferred to Mumbai. The CBI special crime branch has sought his production in the Ishrat case. The CBI had moved a special court in Gujarat, which issued a production memo to request the special court in Mumbai to give directions to the jail authority to have him produced in Gujarat. The Mumbai special judge on Monday also told CBI counsel Ejaz Khan to submit a report about Amin's medical condition as he is in an Ahmedabad hospital so that he can be produced in the special court in Mumbai to face trial in Sohrabuddin case.
Meanwhile, former DIG D G Vanjara, one of the main accused in the Sohrabuddin case sought transfer from Navi Mumbai's Taloja jail to Gujarat's Sabarmati, citing threat perception and medical reasons. But, Khan said the plea was legally untenable and Vanjara would get adequate medical attention. The special judge accepted Khan's submission and rejected Vanjara's plea.
