MUMBAI: The Democratic Front government has sought reimbursement for Rs 3.7 crore spent on purchasing armoured and non-armoured vehicles through the supplementary demands placed before both houses of the legislature.

Explaining the reason for raising the demand, the general administration department said, "Bullet-proof vehicles such as Tata Safari, Ambassador are being used for the President, Vice-president, Prime Minister and foreign dignitaries. Considering the special status of these guests, it is necessary to provide highly secured vehicles to them."

It, therefore, decided to purchase one armoured and one non-armoured Mercedes vehicle for the dignitaries visiting Mumbai. The entire expenditure, it said, can be accommodated within the sanctioned grant for the current financial year.
